Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the freedom of maritime navigation in line with the principles of international law during the 137th session of the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), currently being held in London.
In a statement delivered at the session, Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shammakhi, Transport Undersecretary at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, underscored Oman's commitment to safeguarding the security and safety of international shipping routes, protecting lives at sea, and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of global trade.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Omani delegation, led by Al Shammakhi, held talks with the IMO Secretary-General to discuss strengthening cooperation and coordination in maritime security and safety, marine environmental protection, and enhancing joint efforts to respond to evolving maritime challenges.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between Oman and the IMO to reinforce international maritime resilience and promote safe and sustainable shipping.
