Medad charity used book fair begins

Muscat: The 14th annual Medad charity used book fair opened on Wednesday and will continue until 5 July.

The fair, organised by Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), is held at the Active Oman Centre at the Oman Automobile Association. It aims to support community and charitable initiatives, encourage community members to acquire and benefit from used books, and spread the culture of reading.

The exhibition features more than 9,000 books in both Arabic and English, covering a variety of topics including literature, culture, science, self-development, academic books, and children's books, thereby meeting the interests of various categories of readers.

Dr. Said Ahmed Al Riyami, Dean of the College of Economics and Political Science at Sultan Qaboos University, stated to Oman News Agency that the Medad charity used book fair has become an annual initiative that embodies the college's commitment to spreading knowledge, enhancing the culture of reading, and serving the community by making books available and recirculating them among readers.

He expressed his anticipation that the exhibition would witness a wide turnout from students, university affiliates, and members of the community, and that it would continue to achieve its goals in supporting purposeful community initiatives.

For his part, Ali Khalid Al Darmaki, Head of the Management Group at the College of Economics and Political Science, said that the Medad charity book fair comes as an embodiment of our mission to serve the community, instill values of giving and solidarity in the hearts of our youth, promote the culture of a circular economy, and reduce waste in society.

He explained that the exhibition aims to spread culture and knowledge among students and the local community, with all profits generated being directed toward supporting orphans, meeting their educational and living needs, and bringing smiles to their faces.
