Khareef Dhofar season sees record flight demand

Muscat: This year’s Khareef Dhofar season witnessed exceptional demand for flights between Muscat and Salalah, whereas seats are fully booked, reflecting the growing tourism movement to the governorate of Dhofar.

This surge highlights the role of the aviation sector as a key contributor to the Sultanate of Oman’s national economy and a supporter of tourism and its related sectors.

Hamed bin Ahmed Al Barashdi, Official Spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), emphasized that Oman Air and Salam Air, the current carriers on the Muscat–Salalah route were operating flights at full capacity throughout Khareef Dhofar, according to their operational data.

He added: "The demand for seats consistently outstripped supply, highlighting strong prospects for further investment in Oman’s aviation sector."

As for the operational performance, Oman Air recorded high figures compared to its operational plans for the 2025 autumn season, with load factors exceeding 90 percent on most days and reaching 110 percent in some cases.

The daily flight capacity increased from 12 to 14 flights between Muscat and Salalah, with seat occupancy approaching 98 percent . The total number of passengers on arriving and departing flights exceeded 5,500 per day at the peak of the season.

Furthermore, Salam Air also experienced significant growth in operational capacity during the season, increasing daily flights during peak periods from 4 to 8. Load factors reached 100 percent on some days and exceeded 125 percent in certain cases, with occupancy rates nearing 95 percent . Total daily passenger traffic for round trips reached 4,000 at peak times.

The CAA spokesperson also affirmed that the results recorded during the 2025 autumn season reflect efforts to meet the growing demand for air transport between Muscat and Salalah. Operational indicators showed high load factors exceeding 110 percent of planned capacity on some days, demonstrating flexibility in managing operational capacity and effectively responding to passenger needs.

He added that these figures underscore the pivotal role of the civil aviation sector in boosting tourism to Dhofar during the autumn season. The Authority continues its regulatory and legislative role to ensure smooth air traffic, enhance efficiency and safety, and strengthen confidence in the civil aviation sector.
