Nama Water Services achieves 100% Omanisation, creates 1,188 jobs for nationals

Muscat: Nama Water Services is strengthening its investment in national human capital through specialised training, employment and leadership development programmes, with Omanisation reaching 100 per cent within the company and 1,188 permanent job opportunities created for Omani nationals through training-linked employment initiatives.

The initiatives reflect the company's commitment to developing national capabilities in line with Oman Vision 2040, while ensuring the availability of skilled professionals to manage and operate the country's expanding water and wastewater infrastructure.

Taqi bin Mohammed al Lawati, CEO of Human Resources and Culture at Nama Water Services, said the company follows an integrated approach to employee development through professional qualifications, specialised training and on-the-job learning.

He noted that achieving 100 per cent Omanisation has been accompanied by expanded training and capacity-building programmes across various disciplines. The company also aligns workforce development with its operational priorities, identifying future skills requirements and addressing gaps to ensure efficient management of its assets and services.

Among its key initiatives is the "Ta'zeez" programme, which provides graduates with one year of practical training and a financial allowance. The programme combines academic knowledge with workplace experience, helping participants develop technical, managerial and personal skills.

The company has also partnered with Chinese firm HCIG to implement specialised training for 100 employees across four groups. The programme covers project management, design, planning, artificial intelligence and customer service, alongside field visits to advanced water and wastewater treatment facilities.

Participants are also introduced to wastewater-to-energy technologies and modern approaches to project and asset management.

Under its "Bridges" programme, Nama Water Services provides practical training opportunities to students from universities and colleges across Oman. The initiative annually accommodates more than 300 students from 18 educational institutions, representing 23 academic disciplines, with total training hours exceeding 126,000.

In the latest edition, conducted between June and August 2026, the company hosted 355 students, including 100 trainees in Muscat Governorate.

The company has also implemented four editions of its "Progress" programme to develop national leadership capabilities, focusing on decision-making, project management, teamwork and innovation, preparing Omani professionals to assume senior responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Engineer Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Nuaimi, CEO of Operations and Maintenance at Nama Water Services, said the company has worked with supporting firms to link employment opportunities with specialised qualifications and operational requirements.

He said Omanisation in operation and maintenance contracts awarded to supporting companies had increased from around 55 per cent to 90 per cent, alongside the provision of 1,188 permanent jobs for Omanis through training-linked employment programmes.

The opportunities were announced in three phases, comprising 479 jobs in the first phase, 406 in the second and 303 in the third. Selection and evaluation procedures for applicants under the third phase are currently underway.

Al-Nuaimi stressed that the programmes go beyond job creation by developing specialised national expertise in facility operations, network management and infrastructure maintenance, areas that have traditionally relied to varying degrees on expatriate skills.

He added that the initiatives are expanding career opportunities for young Omanis across the governorates, strengthening local content and enabling supporting companies to undertake more operational and technical responsibilities using national talent.

The integrated programmes, spanning student training, graduate development, employment and leadership preparation, aim to ensure that investments in water infrastructure generate lasting economic and social benefits while strengthening the sustainability and efficiency of essential services.
