Muscat: A popular Hindi song from the 2003 Bollywood film Kal Ho Naa Ho is finding a new audience in 2026.
Nearly 23 years after its release, its infectious disco beats and dance-floor appeal are once again striking a chord with music lovers.
And it is not just nostalgia. Disco and retro dance-pop are enjoying a revival, fuelled by new music, viral social media trends and a growing appetite for the sounds and styles of an earlier era.
Among those riding this wave are W.i.S.H., India's emerging all-girl pop group, which is bringing a fresh identity to a music scene that has long awaited the return of homegrown girl bands.
While countries such as South Korea and Japan have built thriving pop industries around girl groups, India's mainstream music scene has seen relatively few such acts in recent years. W.i.S.H.'s emergence in 2024 has therefore marked an interesting development in the country's contemporary pop landscape.
The quartet comprises Ri (Riya Duggal), Sim (Simran Duggal), Zo (Zoe Siddharth) and Suchi (Suchita Shirke). With their distinctive vocals, energetic choreography, contemporary fashion and infectious pop sound, the four performers are seeking to establish a new space for Indian girl groups.
Their name, W.i.S.H., stands for 'World Inka Stage Hai' – an expression of their ambition to make the stage their own.
Now, the group is getting ready to bring its music and performance energy to Oman.
As W.i.S.H. prepares to take centre stage at Musical Fiesta 2026, presented by Olive Events Oman, on Friday, November 6, at the Grand Hall of Al Falaj Hotel in Muscat, the excitement among Indian pop fans is building.
"Muscat, are you ready?" the group asked fans in a message from India ahead of their much-anticipated performance.
The concert promises an evening of energetic performances, dynamic choreography, powerful vocals and contemporary pop rhythms, offering audiences in Oman an opportunity to experience one of India's emerging girl groups live.
Adding to the group's growing profile, W.i.S.H. recently shared the stage with internationally renowned DJ and music producer Alan Walker during a performance in India. The association marks another significant moment in the group's journey and reflects its growing presence in the contemporary music scene.
Following that experience, the quartet is now preparing to bring its vibrant stage presence to Muscat, where fans can expect a performance combining music, dance and visual spectacle.
Musical Fiesta 2026 will also offer an additional attraction for fans. Olive Events Oman has announced an exclusive photo opportunity for eligible VVIP ticket holders, allowing selected guests to pose for photographs with the W.i.S.H. members following their performance.
For dedicated fans, the opportunity to meet the four performers and take home a photograph will add a personal touch to the evening.
With India's pop scene exploring new sounds and audiences rediscovering the appeal of girl groups, W.i.S.H.'s Muscat appearance comes at an interesting time. For music lovers, it is an opportunity to catch a rising Indian pop act as it seeks to make its mark beyond the country's borders.
