Sayyid Badr: HM the Sultan's visit to China marks historical milestone to boost bilateral relations

Muscat: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, affirmed that the visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the People's Republic of China represents an important step in the history of relations between the two countries, being the first visit by an Omani Sultan to China. The visit is set to boost bilateral relations to an advanced stage of cooperation based on mutual interests and mutual respect.

Sayyid Badr added to Oman News Agency (ONA) that this Royal visit by His Majesty the Sultan reflects the openness of Omani foreign policy in building diverse and balanced relations with various international partners. He explained that Omani-Chinese relations rest upon a long history of civilizational communication and understanding, having witnessed gradual development over past decades in response to political shifts as well as economic and commercial opportunities.

He pointed out that the People's Republic of China is an important economic and commercial partner for the Sultanate of Oman, and that joint efforts are directed toward enhancing investment, industrial, and technical partnerships to achieve in-country value for the national economy—particularly in energy, advanced industries, logistics, knowledge transfer, and capacity building. This comes within a broader orientation to diversify economic partnerships and distribute them to enhance the resilience and sustainability of the Omani economy.

The Foreign Minister stressed that relations with China are not limited to the economic aspect, but also encompass consultation and exchanging views on a number of regional and international issues within the framework of the Sultanate of Oman's commitment to promoting dialogue, political solutions, respect for international law, and multilateral cooperation. The Omani leadership views all its international partnerships as instruments to support development and stability, stemming from its policy based on balance, constructive neutrality, and mutual trust with various parties.

The Foreign Minister noted the existence of shared Omani-Chinese interests and a common political will to build upon achievements through practical projects and tangible initiatives for cooperation among institutions, the private sector, and universities in both countries. He explained that this approach is consistent with the general Omani method in managing its foreign relations based on realism and a focus on results.

He concluded his statement by emphasising that His Majesty’s visit will contribute to opening new and important horizons for the strategic partnership between the two countries, supporting mutual interests, and enhancing efforts for peace, stability, and development within the network of diverse partnerships that the Sultanate of Oman is keen to build and develop.
