MUSCAT: Oman’s Public Prosecution has urged the public to exercise caution and responsibility when expressing opinions, particularly on social media, warning against posts that could offend other countries, their symbols or their people.
In a statement, the Public Prosecution called on individuals to demonstrate awareness and wisdom in their words and actions, stressing the importance of avoiding content that could harm the relations maintained by the Sultanate of Oman with other countries.
It warned that legal action would be taken against anyone who violates the law, whether through publishing, republishing, sharing or inciting others to circulate content, or through any other act criminalised under applicable legislation.
The Public Prosecution highlighted Articles 20, 23 and 26 of Oman’s Cybercrime Law, affirming that violations would be dealt with in accordance with the relevant legal provisions.
The advisory underscores the importance of responsible online engagement and the need to ensure that social media activity does not undermine the country's relations with other nations.
