Muscat: The percentage of patients sent for treatment to India at the expense of the Ministry of Health during 2025 reached 19.6 percent, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).
Statistics issued by the Ministry of Health in September 2026 show an increase in the number of Omani patients sent abroad for treatment at the Ministry's expense during 2025, reaching a total of approximately 1,900 patients.
The statistics indicate that 21 percent of patients sent for treatment outside the Sultanate during 2025 were treated at the Ministry of Health's expense. India topped the list of destinations for treatment, accounting for 19.6 percent of the total, followed by Turkey at 14 percent.
According to data related to medical conditions, the number of patients sent abroad in 2025 for treatment of eye diseases reached 78, cancer patients 12, heart diseases 8, and kidney and urinary tract diseases 11.
The cases also included 13 patients with bone diseases, 6 patients requiring liver transplants, and 4 patients undergoing plastic surgery, while 266 patients were classified under other medical conditions.
Statistics indicate that 80 percent of those sent abroad for treatment at the expense of the Ministry of Health during 2025 received eye treatment, while epilepsy surgery accounted for 14.6 percent of the cases included in the data.
