Muscat: Oman recorded 5,560 fire incidents in 2025, marking a 12 percent increase compared with the previous year, according to newly released data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The figures indicate that fire incidents continued to rise across the Sultanate, underscoring the importance of strengthening fire prevention measures and public awareness on safety practices.
While the NCSI data highlights the overall increase in incidents, authorities have consistently urged residents, businesses and industrial establishments to adhere to fire safety regulations, carry out regular maintenance of electrical systems and ensure the availability of functioning firefighting equipment.
Officials have also stressed the need for greater vigilance during the summer months, when high temperatures can increase the risk of fires, particularly in residential areas, farms and open spaces.
The increase in reported cases reflects the growing demand for rapid emergency response services and reinforces the importance of preventive measures, including routine inspections, safe handling of electrical appliances, proper storage of flammable materials and compliance with civil defence guidelines.
The Royal Oman Police and the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority have repeatedly advised the public to immediately report fire incidents, avoid overloading electrical circuits, and install smoke detectors in homes and commercial buildings to minimise the risk of injuries and property damage.
