Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) will join other countries of the world in observing the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking, which falls on 26 June every year. The event seeks to underscore the importance of intensifying efforts to address serious issues that threaten the security of societies and the health and stability of individuals.
This year emphasis will be laid on qualitative shifts in drug trafficking and patterns of drug abuse amid the emergence of new substances and the exploitation of modern technologies and social media in promoting narcotics. Combating action includes holding public awareness programmes and expanding the scope of international cooperation to minimize the impact of this phenomenon.
As part of the programme, the ROP will organize a sports event at Al Mouj Walk in A’Seeb on 27 June 2026 from 5 to 9 pm. The event will be attended by various segments of society.
On 28 June 2026, the Directorate General for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances will also organize an exhibition at Muscat Mall in the Wilayat of A’Seeb. The exhibition features the security roles that the Directorate General undertakes when dealing with the abuse of drugs and psychotropic substances.
