
Muscat: The Embassy of India in Muscat hosted the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations on 21 June 2026 with a special event held at the Embassy premises in the presence of Ambassador-designate Shri Prashant Pise. Held at the Embassy premises beginning at dawn, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the diplomatic community, friends of India, the Indian community, and yoga enthusiasts, who came together to celebrate the occasion under this year's IDY theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing".
The programme commenced with the Common Yoga Protocol performed collectively by the participants gathered, showcased by advanced yoga demonstrators with dynamic asanas, highlighting the growing popularity of ‘Yogasana’ and yoga practices within the Sultanate. A special ‘Yogasana’ demonstration was presented by the Yogasana Federation of Oman,with Ms. Salha Hakim Al Toqi, the President of the Yogasana Federation of Oman, marking her presence in the event.
Delivering his address to the gathering, Ambassador-designate of India to the Sultanate of Oman, read out the Message by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion of the 12th International Day of Yoga. The message was also addressed to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sultan of Oman, highlighting Yoga's growing role as a global movement for health, harmony, and human well-being. In his message, the Prime Minister emphasized Yoga's global appeal as a path to health, harmony, and balanced living. Referring to this year's IDY theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, he highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare and holistic well-being, noting that regular practice of Yoga strengthens physical vitality, enhances mental resilience, and promotes emotional balance.
The Ambassador also expressed his appreciation that one of his first public engagements in Oman coincided with the International Day of Yoga celebrations being held across various cities in the Sultanate. He thanked all the relevant organisations and bodies for their active participation and support in organizing multiple Yoga events in every nook and corner of Oman.
The Embassy extended its appreciation to all participating yoga organisations, including the Yogasana Federation of Oman, friends of India, and members of the Indian community, for their enthusiastic participation, which reflects the continuing popularity of yoga in Oman and the deepening cultural people-to-people ties between the Republic of India and the Sultanate of Oman.
The Embassy also expressed its sincere gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for his continued support in fostering an environment that promotes cultural exchanges and mutual understanding of our longstanding friendship between the two
countries.
