New York: The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that 17 hospitals in Lebanon have been damaged as a result of the recent Israeli escalation, including three hospitals in the city of Tyre, calling for the protection of medical facilities and personnel under international law.
The WHO said 135 healthcare workers and paramedics have been killed and nearly 400 others injured since the escalation began.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said humanitarian partners continue to support affected families, with more than 182,000 people having received essential relief supplies.
OCHA said it remains deeply concerned about the continued impact of hostilities on the health sector and on people’s access to essential services, noting that an attack near Hiram Hospital had injured 10 staff members and damaged its buildings and vehicles.
The incident marks at least the fifth time the hospital has been affected since the escalation began on 2 March 2026, the office added.
