Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources intensifies market monitoring ahead of Eid Al Adha

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources continues its efforts to monitor the availability of agricultural crops in central markets across the Sultanate of Oman as part of measures aimed at strengthening market stability and ensuring sufficient food supplies ahead of the upcoming Eid Al-Adha season.

The ministry said the monitoring campaign is being carried out through continuous field inspections and follow-up visits to central markets to assess supply levels and ensure the uninterrupted flow of food products to consumers during the holiday period, which typically witnesses increased demand for vegetables, fruits and other agricultural commodities.

Officials confirmed that markets are currently witnessing strong availability of various agricultural products, including leafy vegetables, fruit vegetables, root crops and seasonal fruits, with quantities sufficient to meet consumer requirements across different governorates.

The ministry noted that supply chains remain stable and that local markets continue receiving regular shipments from farms, suppliers and import channels, contributing to the overall stability of food availability and prices.

According to official statistics released by the ministry, the Silal Central Market received more than 20,000 tonnes of vegetables and fruits during the period from May 1 to May 20, reflecting the market’s readiness to cater to increased consumer demand in the lead-up to Eid Al-Adha.

The ministry stressed that monitoring and inspection operations will continue throughout the coming weeks to ensure markets remain adequately supplied and to maintain stability in the availability of food products before and during the Eid holiday.

The continued oversight forms part of the ministry’s broader efforts to support food security objectives and ensure the smooth functioning of agricultural supply chains during peak consumption periods.
