
A’Suwaiq: The Environment Center in the Wilayat of A’Suwayq, affiliated with the Environment Authority, organized an environmental event today to introduce the "Plant Oman 2050" initiative in the Wilayats of A’Suwayq and Al Khaburah in North Al Batinah Governorate.
The event was held under the auspices of Sheikh Issa Ahmed Al Maashani, Wali of A’Suwayq, with the participation of several educational, governmental, and private institutions, alongside civil society organizations.
This effort is part of the national initiative implemented by the Environment Authority to enhance environmental sustainability and expand green cover across the Sultanate of Oman.
Hamoud Suleiman Al Harrasi, Head of the Environment Center in the Wilayat of A’Suwayq, explained that the event aimed to bolster efforts to support vegetation cover, serving as an extension of the successes achieved by the initiative to plant ten million trees. He noted that such initiatives contribute significantly to achieving the environmental and developmental objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
He added that the event included the opening of an awareness exhibition featuring more than 20 corners for various educational, governmental, and private institutions, as well as clubs and civil society organizations from the Wilayats of A’Suwayq and Al Khaburah. Participating entities showcased successful models of agricultural nurseries, voluntary afforestation initiatives, and the experiences of educational institutions in the agricultural wealth sector, in addition to introducing the local trees being cultivated under the initiative.
The activities also featured the presentation of specialized working papers aimed at enhancing environmental awareness. Furthermore, seedlings of local Omani trees were distributed to various governmental and private institutions and community members, with the goal of encouraging active public participation in afforestation efforts and environmental preservation.
