Growth opportunities in global Halal market reviewed

Muscat: A workshop titled “Developing the Halal Products Sector” was conducted on Tuesday via video-conferencing.

The event reviewed growth opportunities within the global Halal market and highlighted the potential for Omani companies to enter this promising sector.

Approximately 30 representatives from Omani companies and relevant stakeholders participated in the session.

Organised by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in collaboration with Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and the Saudi Halal Products Development Company, the workshop aimed to introduce the Halal products ecosystem and its supporting services and initiatives.

It also sought to explore avenues for cooperation to enhance the competitiveness of national companies in this vital sector.

The workshop featured several visual presentations addressing the Halal product framework and available opportunities in international markets. Participants also discussed cooperation mechanisms and ways to leverage supporting initiatives.

Furthermore, the Omani Accreditation Center delivered a presentation on accreditation requirements and their significance. It underscored the center’s pivotal role in supporting Halal certification bodies to obtain necessary accreditation, thereby enhancing the reliability of Halal companies, products, and services for easier access to global markets.

Additionally, the centre emphasised its role in ensuring that Halal products imported into the Sultanate of Oman comply with national requirements.

Huda Salim Al Hasani, Export Development Specialist at “Oman Exports” within the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, emphasized that organizing this workshop is part of the efforts of “Oman Exports” to enable Omani companies to expand internationally. These efforts involve raising awareness of available export opportunities and enhancing the readiness of national products to compete in priority sectors.

The workshop concluded with a discussion session that addressed participants’ inquiries and reviewed key challenges and opportunities, particularly regarding Halal market requirements and associated export prospects.
