Project underway to expand mango production in South Al Batinah

Barka: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is continuing the implementation of its initiatives aimed at enhancing food security and developing the agricultural sector. The Ministry is currently executing a project to multiply mango production in the Wilayat of Barka, South Al Batinah Governorate, as part of a broader expansion in fruit cultivation and support for local production.

Eng. Abdullah Saif Al Saidi, Director of the Agricultural Development Department in South Al Batinah, explained that the mango production project in Barka is part of the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen the food security system and support the expansion of crops with high economic feasibility.

He noted that the project is being implemented on three agricultural plots granted under usufruct rights in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning. The total area planted with mangoes in the wilayat has exceeded 4,000 acres, comprising more than 40,000 trees.

He added that the initial production of the project is expected to begin in 2027, noting that seedlings were provided through agricultural research centers via a subsidy system, alongside the importation of selected varieties from abroad to ensure both production quality and diversity. He emphasized that the project relies on the application of modern irrigation systems, including fountain irrigation, which contributes to increasing water resource efficiency and achieving higher productivity.
