Theoretical and Practical Lectures in a First Aid and Resuscitation Course for Technicians Outside the Healthcare Sector

Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), represented by Oman Sports Medicine Committee, organized a training course on first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at Oman Olympic Academy (OOA) headquarters yesterday (Monday). The course aimed to qualify technicians who are not working in the healthcare sector and equip them with the essential skills needed to handle emergency situations in sports venues and during sporting events.

The course was delivered by Ahmed Bouzid, a first aid trainer, and sought to enhance the participants’ field readiness and enable them to respond efficiently to emergency injuries, thereby contributing to improved athlete safety and a more secure sporting environment.

The program included a comprehensive set of theoretical lectures and practical applications, focusing on developing participants’ competence in various aspects of first aid within a sports setting. Sessions covered the fundamental responsibilities and precise roles of first aid providers, reviewed procedures for maintaining the readiness of first aid kits and ensuring their availability at all times, and emphasized the importance of adhering to personal safety measures when dealing with emergency cases.

The course also featured practical training on performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in a simplified and easily applicable manner, as well as the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for adults. In addition, it addressed how to manage emergency situations and sudden injuries, along with environmental conditions such as heat stress and dehydration, while also presenting prevention strategies and risk mitigation methods.

The course concluded by emphasizing the importance of continuing such specialized training programs to support technicians outside the healthcare sector and enhance their preparedness to respond to emergencies safely and effectively.
