
Salalah: The Municipal Council of Dhofar Governorate, during its session today, reviewed a number of service and development topics, as well as ongoing efforts in these areas.
The meeting was chaired by HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar and Chairman of the Council. The session featured a visual presentation by Dhofar Municipality on the governorate’s park and garden projects, highlighting their distribution across various wilayats in alignment with urban expansion and in response to the needs of residents and visitors.
The presentation also addressed a proposal for the establishment and operation of an integrated service station for truck parking areas, aimed at providing a comprehensive service environment to meet the needs of the land transport and freight sector, while enhancing operational efficiency and regulating truck movement.
In line with the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to achieving environmental sustainability and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, the Council hosted specialists from the Green Gulf Recycling Center. As the first and largest facility of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman for the recycling of electronic waste and batteries, the center is located in Salalah.
Its mission is to protect Oman’s environment and promote a sustainable circular economy through the safe and responsible disposal of all electrical and electronic equipment, as well as the recycling and management of a diverse range of e-waste.
The center operates in accordance with global protocols for data protection and environmental safety, coordinating with various entities in both the public and private sectors to minimize the negative environmental impact of such waste.
Discussions during the meeting also covered the key challenges related to the center’s operations, support for public awareness campaigns on responsible e-waste disposal, as well as ways to further support the center’s efforts and facilitate its activities.
The meeting further included a review of the outcomes of the main committee meetings.
