
Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority has issued a ruling against a travel and tourism establishment in Muscat Governorate following multiple consumer complaints.
The Case
The complaints submitted against the establishment varied and included failure to issue tickets within the specified timeframes, cancellation of trips without prior notice, failure to implement agreed tourism programs, and delays in delivering confirmed reservations.
The cases involved varying financial amounts paid by consumers for services that were not provided as agreed.
The Judgment
The court ruled to convict the establishment and its representative for the misdemeanor of failing to provide services in a proper and agreed manner.
The penalties included:
• Imprisonment of the establishment’s representative for a period of three months.
• Financial penalties totaling OMR15,815, distributed between fines, refund of amounts paid by consumers, and compensation.
• Obliging the convicted party to bear the costs of the public action.
The ruling reaffirms the authority’s commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and ensuring compliance with regulations in the travel and tourism sector.
