Rustaq Winter Festival 2026 kicks off at historic castle

Muscat : The Rustaq Winter Festival 2026 has commenced at the historic Rustaq Castle in the South Al Batinah Governorate.

This vibrant cultural and social event, a comprehensive gathering place for families and children, will run until February 7, 2026, and has drawn large crowds and significant participation from various segments of society.

The festival is organised by the Office of the Governor of South Al Batinah in cooperation with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism. This joint effort aims to highlight the historical, touristic, and cultural attractions of Rustaq and to promote the castle as a vibrant cultural hub for community activities, thereby contributing to the revitalization of tourism in the governorate.

The programme of events includes a diverse array of heritage, artistic, theatrical, and cultural performances. These will feature folk groups showcasing the authenticity of Omani arts, as well as presentations of historical figures, artistic and musical operettas that reflect local heritage in a contemporary style, and theatrical performances by specialized troupes. In addition, there will be poetry readings and cultural seminars exploring the history of Rustaq and its cultural significance throughout the ages.

Children will also be given ample attention through recreational competitions, interactive activities, and talent shows, all aimed at fostering creativity and strengthening their connection to national identity. A photography competition (photo or video) will also be held to encourage community engagement and document the event in innovative ways.

The Rustaq Winter Festival coincides with an exhibition of home-based businesses, featuring the participation of productive families and artisans. This contributes to supporting the local economy, empowering entrepreneurs, and highlighting authentic Omani traditional crafts.

In this context, Dr. Hatem bin Salem AlDuhani, Assistant Director General for Administrative and Financial Affairs and official spokesperson for the South Al Batinah Governorate, explained that the Rustaq Winter Festival is part of the governorate's vision to highlight its tourism, cultural, and economic assets, presenting them in an ideal way that resonates with all segments of society. This is achieved through the creation of high-quality activities geared towards families and children, and by promoting the participation of local producers and artisans.

He noted that the governorate has consistently organised such events in its various districts, particularly during the winter season, which offers a pleasant and exceptionally beautiful climate, making it a welcome respite for families and an incentive to go out, enjoy picnics, and participate in community activities.
