Jebel Shams records year’s lowest temperature at -4°C

Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has released its latest meteorological data, confirming a sharp decline in temperatures across the Sultanate of Oman over the last 24 hours. As of Monday, 26 January 2026, several regions have recorded their lowest temperatures of the season, with the mercury dropping well below freezing in the country’s high-altitude areas.

Data collected from the CAA’s nationwide network of weather stations reveals that Jebel Shams remains the coldest point in Oman, with temperatures plunging to a frigid -4.0°C. Following closely in terms of winter intensity was Saiq, which registered a low of 6.2°C. These freezing conditions at high altitudes are part of a broader cold air mass currently influencing the region’s weather patterns.

The cold snap has also been felt across Oman’s desert and inland governorates. Notable readings included 12.1°C in Muqshin and 12.4°C in Haima. Further inland, Ibra and Qairoon Hairitti recorded temperatures of 13.2°C and 13.0°C, respectively. Other areas, including Yaaloni, Bidiyah, Dhank, and Al Qabil, all hovered between 13.4°C and 13.5°C, while Marmul rounded out the report at 13.6°C.

Authorities continue to monitor these atmospheric changes and advise residents in high-altitude and desert areas to take necessary precautions against the cold, particularly during the late-night and early-morning hours.
