Muscat Metro details to be announced soon

Muscat: Oman will announce details of the long-awaited Muscat Metro project within the next two months, following the signing of a national transport-tracking initiative, said the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology on Monday.

Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali said the forthcoming announcement would mark a key milestone in the Sultanate’s efforts to modernise urban mobility and enhance public transport services in the capital.

The minister was speaking during the annual press briefing held by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) .

According to the ministry, the proposed 50-kilometre metro line will run between Sultan Haitham City and Ruwi Central Business District (CBD), with around 36 stations along the route.

The metro will pass through Muscat International Airport and serve major urban hubs, including the proposed Ghala and Al Khuwair downtown districts.

During the briefing, the ministry also revealed that the logistics sector attracted investments worth approximately OMR3.4 billion during the Tenth Five-Year Plan. The transport, logistics, communications and information technology sectors have made a significant contribution to achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly in enhancing investment, financial sustainability, private sector participation and economic diversification.

In addition, the ministry succeeded in attracting investments of around OMR1.2 billion in the communications and information technology sector in 2025, including nearly OMR65 million in

artificial intelligence-related projects.

Revenue growth in 2025 reached approximately 17.4% in the ports sector, 9.4% in maritime affairs, and 18% in the land transport sector, reflecting the continued expansion and efficiency of Oman’s transport and logistics ecosystem.
