Dubai(UAE): A major incident occurred on Friday afternoon during the Dubai Air Show when an Indian HAL Tejas fighter jet crashed while conducting a scheduled demonstration flight.
The jet went down around 2:10 p.m. local time in front of a large crowd of spectators at Al Maktoum International Airport, which hosts the biennial air show. Witnesses saw black smoke rising from the crash site, and sirens were immediately heard across the Dubai World Central venue.
Officials did not immediately confirm the status of the pilot, specifically whether they had successfully ejected from the aircraft. The air show is a key event for the city-state, recently finalizing significant aircraft orders for local carriers Emirates and FlyDubai.
