Omani endowment and its community, economic investment showcased

Muscat— The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs today showcased the Omani endowment (Waqf) and its community and economic investment as part of the "Economic Knowledge" program organized by the Ministry of Economy.

Dr. Mohammed Said Al Ma'amari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, gave a visual presentation during a dialogue session titled "The Omani Endowment in Enhancing Community and Economic Investment." The presentation addressed the concept of Waqf from an economic and financial perspective, and its importance in developing society from economic and social aspects, including: investment in economic projects and creating job opportunities.

He also reviewed the financial and investment performance of endowments in the Sultanate of Oman, the volume of endowment assets and their average growth over the past twenty years, as well as the sources of endowment revenues.

He pointed to a set of challenges facing the increase of endowments' contribution to the Omani economy and government revenues, and ways to overcome them to achieve the goals of the Omani endowment.

The minister reviewed lessons learned from successful international experiences in managing and investing endowments and the possibility of applying them in the Omani context. He also discussed future plans for developing Omani endowments and enhancing their sustainability in line with the approaches of "Oman Vision 2040," which aims to build an integrated and proactive society and entrench the concepts of social responsibility and balanced development.

The endowment is considered a developmental tool in enhancing social solidarity, supporting community initiatives, and expanding the fields of partnership between the public and civil sectors to serve the public interest.
