Oman observes World Tsunami Awareness Day

Muscat; The Sultanate of Oman joins the world today in observing World Tsunami Awareness Day under the theme "Be Tsunami Ready: Invest in Preparedness and Readiness."

This United Nations-designated day aims to enhance global awareness of tsunami risks and highlight the importance of advance preparation and effective planning to mitigate their impact on lives and property.

The observance reflects Oman's commitment to building communities aware of natural disaster risks and fostering a culture of prevention and early response, thereby contributing to the protection of lives and national assets.

The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center at the Civil Aviation Authority places significant emphasis on developing the tsunami early warning system by updating monitoring and observation systems and strengthening regional and international cooperation for real-time data and information exchange. This ensures the swift and accurate issuance of warnings in the event of any potential threat.

In collaboration with the National Emergency Management Center and relevant authorities, the Civil Aviation Authority also works to enhance community and individual readiness through periodic drills, awareness programs, and training, thereby strengthening national capacities in dealing with natural hazards.
