Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in coordination with the Authority for Projects, Tenders, and Local Content, has officially awarded the contract for the major development of Al Mouj Road and the associated section of 18th November Street. This critical infrastructure project aims to significantly alleviate congestion and improve connectivity along one of Muscat's busiest corridors, ultimately supporting increased commercial, economic, and tourism activity in the area.
The comprehensive development focuses on expanding capacity and optimizing traffic flow through several key interventions. A major part of the project is the addition of a third lane in each direction along 18th November Street, extending from the Airport Bridge all the way to Al Ishraq Roundabout (towards Al Seeb Beach). Furthermore, the plans call for extensive upgrades to key intersections. The existing Al Mouj Roundabout will be enhanced with the construction of a new bridge and a four-way traffic signal system, while the congested Al Bahja Roundabout will be completely redeveloped to include both a flyover and an underpass for vehicles.
In addition to these major overhauls, the project will upgrade the Al Ishraq Roundabout into a three-way signalized intersection designed to ensure continuous traffic flow toward Al Seeb Beach. The expansion continues with a third lane being added from Al Mouj Roundabout to Al Mawaleh Bridge. To further streamline movement in this section, two new underpasses will be constructed for vehicles traveling from 18th November Street toward Al Mawaleh Bridge. As this project moves forward, the Ministry also confirmed it is in the final stages of awarding the contract for the complementary Muscat Expressway expansion project.
