Muscat: The Embassy of Italy in Muscat proudly joins the global celebration of the 25th edition of the Italian Language Week in the World, held under the theme “Italophony: language beyond borders.” This annual initiative, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is dedicated to promoting the richness and beauty of the Italian language and its vital role in fostering intercultural dialogue.
This year’s celebration in Muscat will highlight the profound connection between language, literature, and imagination through a special event featuring Emanuele Trevi, one of Italy’s most esteemed contemporary writers and critics.
Trevi, recipient of the prestigious Strega Prize, will lead a presentation titled “Once Upon a Language: The Journey of the Italian Fairy Tale” exploring how storytelling transcends time and continues to shape language as an instrument of creativity and reflection. The event will take the audience on a journey through the history of Italian fairy tales, unveiling their power to connect generations and cultures through the art of the spoken and written word.
Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador of Italy to the Sultanate of Oman, H.E. Pierluigi D’Elia, stated: “The Italian language is not only a means of communication but a living expression of our culture, creativity, and identity. Through literature and art, it continues to inspire dialogue and understanding across nations. This celebration is an opportunity to share the beauty of our language with our Omani friends and to strengthen the deep cultural ties that unite our two countries.”
In his own words, Emanuele Trevi commented: “Storytelling is not a relic of the past but a living force — it wields language not only as a vessel, but as an instrument of transformation. Fairy tales, even in their simplicity, reach toward the hidden layers of our consciousness, guiding both reader and writer through a journey of meaning.”
Reflecting on the significance of his participation, Trevi added that he hopes the event will encourage curiosity and openness to the unknown, especially among young learners, and underscore the idea that language is never static — it evolves as we read, tell, and live.
In addition to this highlight, the Embassy has partnered with Creative Minds School to organize a joyful children’s workshop introducing young students to the Italian language through storytelling, games, and creativity. Inspired by La Pimpa, one of Italy’s most beloved children’s characters, the workshop aims to nurture curiosity and cultural appreciation among the new generation, showing that language learning can be a playful and imaginative adventure.
Through these initiatives, the Embassy of Italy in Muscat reaffirms Italy’s commitment to deepening cultural ties and mutual understanding between the two nations, and continues to promote not only the study of Italian but also the universal values embedded in its language — beauty, creativity, and human connection.
