Muscat: Oman Airports confirmed a remarkable surge in air traffic during the Khareef Dhofar (monsoon) 2025 season, from early June to the end of August. This was driven by the increasing popularity of travel to Dhofar, known for its pleasant weather and diverse recreational and cultural events.
Oman Airports reported that Salalah Airport saw a 13.2% increase in passenger traffic between early June and the end of August this year, reaching 562,561 passengers, compared to 496,936 passengers during the same period in 2024. Aircraft movements also rose by 10%, with 3,409 flights compared to 3,105 flights last year. This highlights the success of efforts to strengthen the airport's position as the main gateway to Dhofar.
Meanwhile, Sohar Airport experienced a notable 80% growth in passenger traffic between July and August 2025, with the number of passengers increasing from 6,495 in July to 11,691 in August.
For the first time, Salalah Airport launched a drive-through check-in service from 15 July to 15 September, allowing passengers to complete travel procedures directly from their vehicles. Transom also offered its "Marhaba" service in Salalah, enabling passengers to finalize their travel arrangements, including check-in and baggage drop-off, in advance. A home check-in service was also provided.
Additionally, self-service check-in kiosks were introduced during the Khareef season, offering flexible and quick options for travelers.
Oman Airports also hosted a FIFA electronic sports championship at the cargo building, attracting young people and e-sports enthusiasts in a competitive atmosphere.
