More than 66,000 teachers begin work tomorrow for the new academic year

Muscat: Tomorrow, members of the teaching staff, related positions, support groups, and supervisors will begin their work in various schools for the new 2025/2026 academic year. Students will return to school next Sunday.

This year, the number of teachers in public schools reached 66,379, distributed across 1,303 schools. The number of administrators and technicians in public schools reached 11,183, including 4,420 males and 6,763 females. The number of teachers in special education schools reached 241, while the total number of administrators in special education schools reached 46.

 During the past period, the Ministry completed the appointment procedures for new teachers who passed the written tests and personal interviews for this academic year, to meet the actual need for teaching staff in various disciplines.

Saif bin Mubarak Al-Jalandaani, Director General of the General Directorate of Educational Supervision at the Ministry of Education, stated that the Directorate will implement the third induction program for new teachers in various disciplines on August 27 and 28. The program focused on preparing teachers in the field, providing them with basic knowledge and skills, familiarizing them with educational projects and developments, and developing their positive attitudes toward the teaching profession from day one.

He added that the Directorate organized an induction program on July 7 and 8 for new recruits to fill educational supervision and school administration positions. The program was attended by 399 male and female recruits from various educational directorates and the Ministry's General Office. The program aimed to enhance leadership and administrative competencies and provide a comprehensive vision for their new roles, as part of the Ministry's commitment to investing in educational leadership.

 He pointed to the implementation of a national plan to prepare (100) public and private schools for external review by the Oman Academic Accreditation Authority and ensure the quality of education in the governorates of Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, and South Al Batinah. This plan aims to enhance schools' administrative and technical readiness, activate self-assessment tools, and improve institutional performance. 

He emphasized the Ministry's commitment to supporting educational cadres and providing sustainable programs that contribute to the development of education and the enhancement of its outcomes.

Regarding efforts to raise the efficiency of educational performance and enhance the quality of education, Dr. Intisar bint Abdullah Ambusaidi, Director General of the Specialised Institute for Vocational Training, indicated that the Institute offers various professional development programs for the 2025/2026 academic year, targeting new and experienced teachers and administrative cadres. These programs aim to raise the efficiency of educational performance and enhance the quality of education. The most prominent of these programs is the New Teachers Program, which is implemented through direct training, e-learning, and fieldwork. The Equal Educational Opportunities Program is also implemented in cooperation with the Arab Women Organization, covering (872) schools.

 She added: "The Advanced School Leadership Program and the School Sports Experts Program are among the most prominent programs offered to experienced leaders and teachers. The Institute is also implementing several programs in risk management, the e-learning system (Noor), the TIMSS program in preparation for the 2027 International Study, and (11) short supplementary programs to develop skills. These programs are in addition to specialized programs in Arabic, mathematics, science, English, special education, assessment, modern curricula, sign language, autism spectrum disorders, and continuing education. These programs also include training in the use of interactive whiteboards. All of these programs aim to enhance modern educational practices in line with the aspirations of Oman Vision 2040." 

 Majid bin Nasser Al-Sinawi, Director General of the Directorate General of Education in Al Wusta Governorate, confirmed that the Directorate has completed all its preparations for the start of the new academic year 2025/2026, through an integrated package of measures and plans aimed at creating an educational environment that ensures a successful start to the school year and provides modern educational components that meet community aspirations and align with the Ministry's directives.

He explained that the new academic year witnessed the appointment of 336 male and female teachers from among the new national cadres, bringing the total number of teaching staff in Al Wusta Governorate's schools to more than (1,390) male and female teachers, administrators, and technicians. The total number of students in the governorate's schools reached (8,440) male and female students distributed across the governorate's four wilayats.

He pointed out that the efforts exerted in the construction sector have resulted in the implementation of several important educational projects. The total cost of the projects that have been implemented and are currently being implemented amounts to approximately (2,136,845) Omani riyals.

 Al-Sinawi stated that these projects included the construction of a new school to accommodate the increasing number of students, in addition to classrooms, laboratories, and educational wings in a number of existing schools. Other development projects aimed at enhancing the school environment and improving educational services were also implemented, along with the Directorate's maintenance department's work, which amounted to approximately OMR 628,175. These projects included periodic and structural maintenance to ensure the safety of buildings and their suitability for optimal educational use.

He emphasized that the Directorate has completed all aspects related to providing educational supplies, including distributing textbooks to schools, and providing tables, chairs, and educational equipment to meet the needs of the educational field and contribute to ensuring the smooth and effective running of the educational process.
