Registration for aqua projects begins in Oman

Muscat: Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries announced that registration is open for institutions and Omani companies that want to create aquaculture projects at four locations in the governorates of Muscat, South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar.
The registration for aquaculture projects will be from Ministry-owned locations only. In wilayat Quriyat in Muscat governorate the project is of floating cages with a space of 151 hectares; in wilayat Jaalan Bani Bu Ali of Al South Al Sharqiyah governorate there will be three aquaculture projects – two of which will be for shrimp farming with each project being of 159 hectares, and the third project is for hamour and koffer fish farming with a space of 8.4 hectares; in wilayat Al Duqm of Al Wusta governorate the project is for hamour and koffer fish farming with a space of 8.4 hectares; and in wilayat Mirbat in Dhofar governorate the project will be of abalone farming with a space of 11.12 hectares.
While applying for a single fish farming project the registration form, which is available at the fish farming station or on the Ministry website (www.maf.gov.om), must include the company or institution data in addition to its commercial record.
An initial feasibility study must be attached with the registration form that should include the following: “The proposed location for the establishment of the project and its area indicating the governorate and the wilayat, initial investment costs for the project and evidence of financial availability, a statement of type of aquaculture to be cultured, its source, quantities and expected annual production, Identification of the culture system, the expected date of commencement of the project, a flipchart of project components and production stages, data showing the quality of the water to be used in the project, its type, quantities, source and how it will be drained if the project site is near the land, and the services provided by the project to serve the local community.”
The Ministry noted that the registration period will be from February 2 to February 27, 2020.
