Arsenal claim sixth win of the season as Brighton put five past Crystal Palace

LONDON-- Arsenal won 1-0 away to Nottingham Forest on Sunday to remain three points behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

Noni Madueke scored a deflected winner in the 80th minute of a game that was high on effort but low on quality. Arsenal enjoyed more than 70 percent of possession but struggled to create clear chances, relying too often on long passes.

Madueke's goal arrived after he was allowed to drive at the home defence before shooting. His effort took a slight deflection and went past Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels. It was Arsenal's only shot on target.

The result leaves Mikel Arteta's side on 18 points from a possible 21, three points behind Manchester City.

Leeds United and Manchester United drew 1-1 in a fiery encounter at Elland Road. Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for the visitors before Dominic Calvert-Lewin leveled in the 51st minute, controlling a corner delivery and firing home.

Brighton continued its excellent start to the season with a 5-0 demolition of Crystal Palace, taking complete control after racing into a 3-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes.

Jaydee Canvot scored an own goal after just four minutes, and Diego Gomez produced a sensational long-range lob three minutes later, spotting Palace goalkeeper Walter Benitez off his line from roughly 50 meters.

Yasin Ayari added a third in the 10th minute, taking advantage of an assist from Charalampos Kostoulas. Kostoulas made it 4-0 early in the second half and Jack Hinshelwood completed the rout with a late strike.

Bournemouth went into its home game against Sunderland bottom of the Premier League but secured a comfortable 2-0 victory, with goals from Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson, taking its first league win of the campaign.

The result leaves Sunderland second from bottom and at risk of dropping to last depending on Monday's Tottenham Hotspur vs. Coventry City result.
