Muscat: Revenues of 3 to 5 star hotels in the Sultanate of Oman reached approximately OMR156.54 million until the end of August 2026, compared to OMR175.84 million during the corresponding period in 2025, registering a decline of 11 percent. The average occupancy rate in these rated hotels stood at 46.5 percent, compared to 52.9 percent during the corresponding period in 2025, a decrease of 6.4 percentage points.
Data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that the number of guests in 3 to 5 star hotels reached 1.32 million guests, down by 10.7 percent compared to 1.51 million guests during the corresponding period in 2025.
The data indicated an increase in the number of Omani guests by 2.7 percent, reaching 583,702 guests until the end of August 2026, compared to 568,370 guests during the corresponding period in 2025, representing about 43.1 percent of total rated hotel guests.
The number of Asian guests also rose by 3 percent to reach 220,955 guests, compared to 214,473 guests during the corresponding period in 2025.
Conversely, European guests recorded a decline of 29.8 percent, reaching 273,654, compared to 390,013 until the end of August 2025.
The number of guests from GCC nationalities also dropped by 19 percent to reach 119,000, compared to 146,983 during the same period in 2025.
The number of guests from other Arab nationalities decreased by 9 percent to reach 60,223, compared to 66,156, while the number of American guests recorded a decline of 25.6 percent to reach 36,756, compared to 49,415 during the corresponding period last year.
Guests from Oceanian nationalities recorded the largest drop at 57.7 percent, decreasing from 29,484 by the end of August 2025 to 12,475 by the end of August 2026. The number of African guests also declined by 2.1 percent to reach 9,698, compared to 9,904 during the corresponding period in 2025.
On a monthly level, August 2026 data showed an improvement in the activity of rated hotels compared to July 2026; the number of guests during August reached 198,394, an increase of 22.1 percent compared to 162,427 in July, while the number of guests in June stood at 135,080.
Hotel revenues rose during August 2026 to OMR18.23 million compared to OMR14.13 million in July 2026, recording a monthly growth of 29.1 percent, while June revenues reached OMR10.77 million.
Occupancy rate during August 2026 also rose to 51.4 percent, compared to 42.6 percent in July and 36 percent in June, an increase of 8.8 percentage points compared to July, reflecting an improvement in occupancy movement and hotel activity during August.
