Washington: Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated sharply amid fresh military strikes across the Middle East for the second consecutive day.
US Central Command announced on Thursday the completion of another round of strikes targeting Iran overnight.
In a statement, CENTCOM reported that the strikes hit 90 military targets along the Iranian coast in response to Tehran's targeting of commercial vessels transiting the region.
The command detailed that the US strikes targeted air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure along Iran's coastline.
The previous day, CENTCOM forces had struck 80 Iranian military targets, including more than 60 small vessels belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iranian media confirmed that three people were killed and several others wounded in a US strike on a location near the southwestern city of Ahvaz.
Meanwhile, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had struck a number of targets in the region in retaliation for the latest US strikes on Iran, according to a statement carried by official Iranian state television.
