SalamAir to operate first direct flights between Muscat & Medan in Indonesia on Friday

Muscat: SalamAir, the low-cost carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, will operate on Friday, its first direct flights between Muscat and the Indonesian city of Medan.

This step marks the carrier's first scheduled service to the Republic of Indonesia and represents a new destination within its continuous plans to expand its network in Southeast Asia.

SalamAir held an official celebration on Thursday at the headquarters of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Muscat. The event was attended by a number of senior government officials, aviation sector representatives, tourism sector partners, members of the diplomatic corps, and media representatives from both countries.

The new service will commence with two weekly flights on board Airbus A320neo aircraft, providing passengers with a comfortable and economical option for travel between Muscat and Medan.

The new route will contribute to enhancing the growing economic, tourism, and cultural relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Indonesia. It will also provide a direct and convenient travel option at competitive prices for passengers between the two countries.

Furthermore, the flights are expected to contribute to meeting the growing demand of Umrah travelers by providing seamless connecting flights via Muscat to both Jeddah and Medina. This is in addition to supporting tourism traffic and enhancing trade relations between the Sultanate of Oman and Indonesia.

Indonesia is considered one of the fastest-growing tourism and aviation markets in Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, the city of Medan serves as the commercial and cultural gateway to the North Sumatra province, providing access to numerous global tourist destinations.

Adrian Hamilton-Manns, Chief Executive Officer of SalamAir, stated that the launch of the company's first scheduled flights to Indonesia represents a significant milestone in SalamAir's growth journey. He noted that it reflects the commitment to enhancing air connectivity between the Sultanate of Oman and promising, underserved markets in Asia. He pointed out that Indonesia is a strategic market connected by growing tourism, commercial, and cultural ties with the Sultanate of Oman.

He added that he is confident this new route will contribute to boosting tourism traffic, supporting trade exchange, and strengthening the bonds between the two peoples.

For his part,Heru Budiarso, Chargé d'Affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Muscat, stated that the launch of SalamAir's direct flights between Muscat and Medan constitutes an important milestone in the history of relations between the Republic of Indonesia and the Sultanate of Oman.

He explained that enhancing air connectivity between the two countries will support tourism, trade, investment, and cultural exchange, ultimately bringing the two peoples closer together.

The launch of the Medan destination comes as part of SalamAir's strategy aimed at continuing the expansion of its international network. Today, the carrier serves more than 40 destinations across the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Europe, utilising its growing fleet of modern Airbus aircraft.
