Muscat: The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR), announced the implementation of electricity tariff reductions for residential use for a single primary account during the summer of 2026, from May to August.
The Authority also directed licensed companies not to disconnect electricity service during the same period and to offer flexible payment plans to subscribers with outstanding balances, enabling them to pay in installments through convenient mechanisms.
These decisions aim to mitigate the impact of increased consumption due to high temperatures during these months. Under the approved mechanism, licensed companies will apply a 15 per cent reduction during May for consumption between 0 and 4,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh), 10 percent for consumption between 4,001 and 6,000 kWh, and 5 per cent for consumption exceeding 6,000 kWh.
The discount rates increase during June, July, and August, reaching 20 per cent for the 0-4000 kWh bracket, 15 percent for the 4001-6000 kWh bracket, and 10 per cent for consumption exceeding 6000 kWh.
The authority confirmed that it has instructed licensed companies to adhere to these procedures to ensure consistent billing and accurate consumption calculations.
