Oman beach volleyball team finishes fourth at Asian Beach Games

Sanya: Oman beach volleyball team secured fourth place in the sixth Asian Beach Games, held in the Chinese city of Sanya, following a straight-sets defeat to Thailand in the bronze medal match, thereby missing out on the opportunity to claim third place at the conclusion of the competition.

The match concluded with set scores of 18–21 and 15–21. The first set saw the Thai team take an early lead. However, Omani players Mazin Sulaiman Al Hashmi and Hood Rashid Al Jalboubi regained their composure, gradually narrowed the gap, and managed to level the score, even taking a brief lead. Nevertheless, the Thai team's experience in critical points allowed them to secure the first set.

In the second set, the two teams remained evenly matched in the early stages. The Thai side then progressively widened the margin, ultimately clinching the set 21–15 and securing the bronze medal, while Oman settled for fourth place.

Throughout the tournament, Oman team delivered notable performances, achieving five consecutive victories in the preliminary rounds. They overcame the teams of Laos, the Maldives, and Japan in the group stage, followed by Kazakhstan in the second round and Iran (B) in the quarterfinals. These results established Oman as a formidable contender and a strong candidate for a podium finish, before narrowly losing to Iran (A) in the semifinals with a score of two sets to one.
