OOA Organizes Sports Health and Nutrition Course

Oman Olympic Academy (OOA) launched yesterday morning (Monday) the 2026 Health, Nutrition, and Sports Course, which will run for three consecutive days with the participation of a group of individuals interested in sports and nutrition from various related sectors.

The course aims to introduce participants to the fundamental concepts of healthy nutrition and sports nutrition, while enhancing understanding of the relationship between food, physical activity, and physiological processes within the body, such as energy production and different energy systems. It also highlights athletes’ nutritional requirements, the importance of meal planning and timing in accordance with training demands and physical workload, as well as the role of nutrition in injury prevention and recovery, and the scientific use of dietary supplements in a safe and effective manner.

The course is delivered by lecturer Laila Shahbani, a sports nutrition specialist and food science researcher at Sultan Qaboos University. She emphasized the importance of acquiring scientific and practical knowledge that helps participants adopt a healthy lifestyle capable of enhancing physical performance based on modern scientific principles.

The program covers a range of key topics, including the basics of healthy nutrition and its relationship to physical activity, the body’s energy production systems and their link to athletic performance, nutritional requirements for youth and adult athletes, and the role of nutrition in injury prevention and rehabilitation. It also addresses the scientific use of dietary supplements and nutritional strategies before, during, and after exercise.

In addition, the course equips participants with the ability to understand the relationship between nutrition and physical health, analyze dietary needs according to levels of physical activity, apply sports nutrition principles to improve performance, evaluate common dietary practices among athletes, and develop skills for planning a healthy and balanced lifestyle that integrates nutrition and exercise.

This course comes at a time of growing interest in physical health and fitness, as evidence-based nutrition has become one of the essential pillars in enhancing physical performance for both athletes and non-athletes alike, contributing to greater health awareness and improved athletic performance at all levels.
