Oman switches to remote learning in several governorates tomorrow

Muscat: The Ministry of Education has decided to switch to remote education and activate e-learning platforms in some government and private schools, universities, and colleges across several regions tomorrow, Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

This decision affects the Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiyah, South Al Sharqiyah, and Al Wusta governorates, as well as the wilayats of Al Amerat and Qurayyat in Muscat Governorate. Distance learning will be implemented in most wilayats of South Al Batinah Governorate. E-learning will be activated in both government and private schools in the wilayats of Rustaq, Awabi, Nakhl and Wadi Al Maawil. In-person classes will continue in the wilayats of Barka and Al Musannah.

The University of Technology and Applied Sciences has decided to switch to distance learning in Nizwa, Ibra, Sur, and Muscat as well.

The move comes as a precautionary measure due to certain governorates of the Sultanate of Oman being affected by a weather depression. Educational institutions are expected to resume their usual schedules on Thursday, April 2, 2026, once conditions stabilise.

The Ministry has urged all students and academic staff to utilise the established e-learning platforms to ensure the continuity of the educational process during this temporary shift.
