
Berlin: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR), on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of Rostock in the Federal Republic of Germany, with the aim of enhancing joint cooperation in the fields of sustainable waste management and the development of circular economy applications.
The MoU reflects the keenness of APSR to benefit from leading international experiences and expertise in the management of resources and maximization of economic value of waste. The MoU constitutes a step forward in supporting transition towards circular economy and enhancing environmental and economic sustainability.
The MoU was signed by Hassan bin Mohammed Al Lawati serves as the Director General of Economic Regulation and Markets at the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) in Oman, and Pro. Dr. Elizabeth Prommer, Rector of the University of Rostock.
The MoU seeks to enhance scientific and technical cooperation between the APSR and the University of Rostock in developing advanced models for sustainable waste management.
The MoU also aims to benefit from global best practices in raising public awareness, promoting a culture of sorting at the source, improving the quality of recycling, diminishing dependence on landfills and converting waste into economic resources with added value, in support of the circular economy trends.
The programme of the signing ceremony included field visits for the Omani delegation to the research facilities and laboratories of the University of Rostock. The tour included the facilities of the waste management company in the city of Rostock, where the delegation reviewed the latest technologies and experiences applied in the field of waste management and conversion of waste into resources.
The programme also included specialized discussions about opportunities for joint research and technical cooperation in developing innovative solutions that support the transition towards a circular economy.
The signing of the MoU was attended by Maitha Saif Al Mahrouqi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Federal Republic of Germany.
