Oman expands air links to Europe, Asia and Africa

Muscat: With the summer season expected to see a surge in travellers, airlines are ramping up connectivity from the Sultanate of Oman to destinations across the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Africa.

National carrier Oman Air has announced a series of new routes for 2026, reinforcing its international expansion strategy.

The airline will begin flights to Tashkent from June 1, 2026, followed by Muscat–Kigali services later in June. Services to Singapore and the Russian city of Sochi will commence on July 2, while Dubai to Salalah route is set to launch from July 3, 2026.

Low-cost carrier SalamAir is also expanding its footprint, with new routes to Damascus in May, Vienna in June, the Indonesian city of Medan in July and Mogadishu in Somalia from September 3.

The airline has indicated that additional destinations will be announced later in 2026 as part of its strategy to diversify into markets with strong demand and balanced competitive dynamics.

Meanwhile, Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo has announced the launch of seasonal non-stop flights between Chennai and Muscat from May 14.

Con Korfiatis, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air, said the launch of new flights reflects the airline’s continued focus on building a commercially sustainable network that balances point-to-point demand with strategic growth markets.

SalamAir CEO Adrian Hamilton-Manns said: “As we mark nine years of SalamAir’s journey, we thank our passengers and partners for their continued trust as we expand our network, enhance our product and deliver strong value in the market.

“This milestone reflects the commercial strength, agility and dedication of our team, and reinforces our focus on profitable growth, customer-led innovation and strengthening SalamAir’s position as a leading low-cost carrier in the region.”

Oman Air said the expanded network and new schedule demonstrate the company’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the economy of the Sultanate of Oman while extending its global reach through award-winning services and its signature Omani hospitality, both in the air and on the ground.
