Scientific publication documents civilisational presence of South Al Sharqiyah

Muscat: The National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) has released two new volumes of the book titled "South Al Sharqiyah in the Memory of Omani History." These volumes are part of the Authority's historical and civilizational series dedicated to Omani governorates and cities, reflecting its ongoing efforts to document national history, highlight the civilizational contributions of Omani governorates, and support specialized scientific research and academic studies.

The first volume of the book (the sixth publication in the series) is the result of scientific research and studies presented at a specialized historical symposium titled "South A’Sharqiyah Governorate in the Memory of Omani History," which was organized by the Authority in 2024 in the Wilayat of Sur.

Walid Ali Al Abri, Director of the Research and Studies Department at the NRAA, emphasized that the release of these two volumes embodies the Authority’s commitment to enriching Omani and Arabic libraries with reliable scientific references. He noted that these publications represent a qualitative addition for researchers and scholars, contributing to the support of scientific research and the documentation of national memory for future generations.

He further explained that the peer-reviewed scientific research and original documentary materials included in these releases reflect the importance of integration between academic research and archival work. This underscores the Authority’s mission to preserve national history and make it accessible based on rigorous scientific foundations.

The publication also includes a scientific introduction reviewing the main pillars of the studies, brief summaries of each paper, and a documentary appendix featuring a collection of documents, photographs, and maps related to South A’Sharqiyah Governorate from the Authority's archives.

The second volume (the seventh publication in the series) is dedicated to the cultural aspects of the governorate. It comprises 13 scientific research papers discussing various topics that reflect the cultural, intellectual, and social heritage of the governorate and its wilayats. This volume is also supported by a scientific introduction and a documentary appendix that enhances its cognitive value.

This publication confirms the scientific and documentary role undertaken by the National Records and Archives Authority in safeguarding Omani history and highlighting the contributions of governorates to Omani civilization, thereby strengthening national awareness and supporting the scientific and cultural movement in the Sultanate of Oman.
