New York: The Sultanate of Oman participated today in the joint ministerial meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the French Republic, held in New York on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Sayyid bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister underlined the strength of the longstanding friendly relations between the Sultanate of Oman and France, which are built on foundations of trust and mutual respect.

He noted the significant development this partnership has witnessed in recent years in the fields of security, trade, and cultural exchange. He emphasized the importance of building on this momentum to enhance joint GCC-French cooperation in a manner that serves mutual interests.

Sayyid Badr also addressed the Palestinian cause as an urgent priority, appreciating the role undertaken by both France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in their joint presidency of the summit dedicated to the two-state solution.

He affirmed that restoring the credibility of the peace process requires concrete, practical steps that put an end to the cycle of violence, ensure the protection of civilians, and open a genuine political horizon that guarantees the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.

Sayyid Badr voiced Oman's appreciation for France's recognition of the right of the Palestinians to establish their independent state, calling on the international community to confront the grave violations perpetrated by the Israeli government against the Palestinians.

He stressed that the path to achieving a just and lasting peace lies in constructive dialogue that addresses legitimate concerns and enhances mutual trust. He clarified that Oman and the GCC states have consistently worked to open channels of communication, reduce tensions, and avoid confrontations, whether in matters of nuclear non-proliferation, maritime security, or regional conflicts.

In conclusion, he emphasized that the GCC-French partnership gains its utmost importance when translated into practical steps and tangible outcomes. He indicated that the most pressing challenge today is the injustice and suffering endured by the Palestinian people, and the serious repercussions this has on the security and stability of the region.
